Wikipedia is, by far, the most widely used Wiki on the Internet. Creating your own wiki can be an easy task, depending on the route which you choose to take. You could add a dynamic wiki system to your own web server, which may require moderate programming knowledge. Or you could use a third-party service to do it for you, free. Wetpaint is one of those services. “Wetpaint powers websites that tap the power of collaborative thinking. The heart of the Wetpaint advantage is its ability to allow anyone — especially those without technical skill — to create and contribute to websites written for and by those who share a passion or interest. To do this, Wetpaint combines the best aspects of wikis, blogs, forums and social networks so anyone can click and type on the web.” Online social networking is an important factor with Internet marketing. Wetpaint just introduced the following social networking features to its easy-to-use Wiki. - Friends Network: Wetpaint users can now connect with one another through friend invitations
- Custom Member Profiles: Each site can have its own custom profile templates for members to share interests and information with the community.
- Compliments: Members can send compliments to other members. This serves as a reward mechanism through which people are encouraged to continue adding to the wiki.
- Enhanced Member Directory: Quickly search and sort through member profiles to discover determine who are the most prolific contributers and who are the most recent joiners.
- What’s New Dashboard: An at-a-glance overview of most recent page, comment and member updates.
- To-Dos: Flag up pages that need updating or review, request additional information or illustrations with simple workflow.
- Friend Feeds: Stay up to date with your friends on the site by getting reports on their latest activity and contributions.
- Promote My Site wizard: A wizard that helps promote the site by indicating how attractive the site is to new members and search engines, and offers guidance for improvements.

A colleague informed me that Microsoft in on the verge of launching the next version of Internet Explorer, IE8. The next version of the software was announced today at the annual MIX08 event in Las Vegas. Along with supporting current web standards, new features in IE8 are:
Activities: Lets a user highlight text on a Web page and click a button to use the highlighted words in various online services, like maps, product searches, weather, or other related web services.
WebSlices: Allows IE8 beta users to easily subscribe to portions of a page that update dynamically, allowing users to receive updates from that page as content changes.
For example, you could hover over a feed on a Facebook page, then a small WebSlices icon will appear. You click on the icon to subscribe to the feed.
Don’t get too excited yet, however. Some users are experiencing more browser crashes than ever before. Keep in mind, though, that the product is still in Beta testing.
Look for the official release of IE8 by the end of the first half of 2008.
