How HTML 5 Will Change Web Site Development
Written by Brandon Prebynski

HTML is changing. Not yet. But it will be.

After taking a quick look at how HTML 5 will handle markup, I am looking forward to its implementation.

HTML 4 has been around for about ten years now. The new version is long overdue.

We can look forward to enhanced functionality, more flexibility and interoperability, more interactive elements and simpler markup. Enhanced features include form controls, APIs, multimedia, structure and semantics.

Lachlan Hunt of A List Apart has provided a brief overview of the HTML 5 update.

Why has it taken so long for an update?

Publishers seeking new techniques to provide enhanced functionality were held back by the constraints of the language and browsers.

HTML 5 development has been in the works since 2004 by the W3C HTML WG and the WHATWG.

How will HTML structure change?

The element tags are much simpler. If you are familiar with current markup, DIV tags will be able to be replaced by simple section IDs.

For example:

<body>
  <header>...</header>
  <nav>...</nav>
  <article>
    <section>
      ...
    </section>
  </article>
  <aside>...</aside>
  <footer>...</footer>
</body>

When can we expect HTML 5 implementation?
Don't get too excited just yet. It will be a few years before we see HTML 5. Okay. More than a few. Ten to fifteen to be more precise.

“Due to the requirement to produce test cases and achieve interoperable implementations, current estimates have work finishing in around ten to fifteen years.”

How SMM Can Help Your Business
Written by Brandon Prebynski
Monday, 07 January 2008

Social Media Marketing (SMM) has become an widely used term lately in Online marketing.

What is SMM?

SMM is a type of marketing that combines social networks (mainly Online) with marketing techniques. It enables a business to increase brand awareness, reputation, Online visibility and expand its marketing communication.

How is SMM accomplished?

Although the social media networks mainly consist of individual users, a company or a representative of a company must participate in the networks. By doing so, “personal” interaction between a company and its audience is developed. Sometimes, various aspects of this are also called “Conversation Marketing.”

The specific types of interaction may range from dialogue, comments, votes, feedback, counter feedback and other types of Online communication.

Why should a company use SMM?

Social media networks can be used to target the audience that a company wants to reach. By communicating directly with audience members, candid and honest feedback is gained. Individuals within the company should also be encouraged to constructively contribute in the communication.

How do you get an audience to communicate with your company?

The participation of the company must be a useful contribution to the audience. This may be in the form of authoritative information, attractive content, entertainment, humor or controversy with an appeal.

  • It improves your brand impression and awareness.
  • It increases your brand engagement like pages viewed by visitors, time spent on  website.
  • It improves your publicity.
  • It brings positive feedbacks and word of mouth.
  • It produces high amounts of targeted traffic to your website.
  • It highly converts your visitors into your satisfied customers.
  • It generates strong inbound links, which boosts organic search engine ranking.
  • It achives excellent ROI (return on investment) when maximum exposure is reached.

How do audience members keep track of your useful content?

There are several Social Bookmarking Web sites that allow you to promote your web site content. Specific tools are also available that allow you to promote content on your web site to most of the top social bookmarking web sites.

How do you implement a SMM campaign?

Internet marketing agencies can execute SMM campaigns. I recommend Spider Media, Inc.
